6th Year Graduation Day was a beautiful celebration. It begun with a guard of honour in the morning and ended with a ceremony full of heartfelt speeches. The decorations looked great.
M2 have been surveying students knowledge of biodiversity and would like to remind us all of the importance of our native Irish bees. It is estimated that almost three quarters of our wild plants rely on insect pollinators, of which bees are most important. Irish people used to believe bees were otherworldly beings, capable of buzzing their way between this world and the next, acting as messengers. It was also said that when a soul left the body it did so as a bee or a butterfly. We must honour St Gobnait, the patron of beekeepers. The Irish word for bee is beacha.
We have a beautiful picture of Coiste holding the Irish flag for all of their efforts in promoting the Irish language throughout the school!
Diane Caulfield and Cora Johnston were at the 2026 Centre of Talent Youth Ireland (CTYI) awards, which took place at DCU’s St Patrick’s Campus on Saturday (9th May) because they qualified to participate in the summer programme. Well done Diane and Cora!
Unfortunately our Minor A tennis team lost out to Alexandra College 2-0 in their Leinster Semi Final but they had great matches and have been brilliant the throughout the whole campaign.
Summer holidays are creeping up which means lots of time for reading in the sun! Bliss! Reading is very important, there is a great quote from New York writer Frand Lebowitz, “Think before you speak. Read before you think”. Reading is not just helpful for English but for all subjects because reading teaches you how to think. If you are struggling with what book to choose, the Librarian made a Summer Reading List for both the Junior Cert and Leaving Cert students. This is a great tool and we encourage all of you to use it.
The Irish Literature Festival starts this week in Merrion Square (15-24 May). Check out the great line-up! https://ilfdublin.com/whats-on/festival/
