We were delighted to have all our TY student’s back after their Work Experience and the Halloween Break.
Throughout the week students have had opportunities both inside and outside the classroom to share their experiences with one another relating to their work experience. They have also reflected on the experience and submitted their employer evaluation forms, all of which will contribute towards their TY credits.
Preparation for TY Interviews is in full swing with interviews beginning bright and breezy on Monday morning. TY’s have been given a list of potential questions they will be asked during their 5 minute interview with their allocated teacher.
We were delighted that TY students had the wonderful opportunity of engaging in the Climate and Nature Summit remotely throughout this week. This summit coincided with The COP26 summit which brought world leaders “together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change”. The Climate & Nature Summit allowed our TY’s to put sustainability at the heart of their education. This summit included empowering virtual sessions that encourage stimulating climate and nature conversations.
Monday saw a number of block rotations commence. These included Accounting, Business, Economics, Business for Living, Irish, Drivers Ed., Leadership, Mindfulness and Politics and Society. These enriching rotations give TY’s the opportunity to taste Leaving Certificate options, experience alternative areas of the curriculum with different teachers, and develop key life skills.
Throughout the week TY’s also had the opportunity to sign up to an abundance of workshops and programmes including: Homework Club Support Leaders, Online Computer Coding Workshop, Film making whilst supporting young adults with Downs Syndrome, Physics programme through UCD, Toastmasters and but by no means least the opportunity to become OLS’s very own Queen’s Gambit through the new OLS Chess Club as a leader or learner.
Next week will see a large number of students start their sign language classes, and a significant number of TY’s taking part in Barista Training. TY’s will also take the My Eirquest & My Aptitude, which will reveal a picture of the student’s strong career and academic interests, related abilities and personal qualities.
