Fáilte ar ais! We hope everyone had a nice Easter break.

The new Zine Club has been a success with collage zines being made about space, winged creatures, nature and much more. The students have really been using their imagination and it is great to see. Zine Club takes place during Monday lunch time but students can just ask the Librarian at any lunch time and they will be happy to give the students supplies and show them how to do it. Zines are mini magazines you can make yourself using collage, so at the end of a lunch break students could have created their own little magazine!

As the seanfhocail goes, “Bíonn siúlach scéalach”, “A walk is a story”, meaning those who travel have tales to tell. Over the Easter break 90 TYs, led by their teachers Ms.Barron and MS.Farrell, went on a glorious trip to Italy. They started in Pisa and then journeyed on to Florence. They visited the leaning tower of Pisa, Boboli gardens, Palazzo Pitti Art Museum, Galleria Dell’accademia, Uffizi Galleries, The Baptistery of San Giovanni, The Opera del Duomo Museum and The Ancient Basilica of Santa. They finished their trip with a game of bowling and a delicious meal in the Hard Rock Cafe. Everyone learnt a lot on the trip and created meaningful friendships.

Another important seanfhocail is, “Is é buille an phinn an buille is fealltaí”, “The pen’s blow is the most treacherous”, emphasising the power of the written word. Reading is important because it teaches people how to think. However, it is also important that we think about where we get our books from. Rather than buying from bookstore franchises we can choose to buy from local independent book stores and support our local community. We have sent The Village Bookshop in Terenure our book wish list for secondary school age students(attached to this newsletter), so please pop in to Alice to say hello, buy some books and read their stories!

The LCA students visited Dublin College Blackrock and the Camden Court Hotel as part of their career planning. The students firstly had a tour of Dublin College Blackrock and heard about their courses. Following, the students met with the Deputy General Manager of the Camden Court hotel to hear about careers in hospitality. They had a tour of the hotel and heard about the operations of a hotel. Many thanks to Fiona in Dublin College Blackrock and Steve in the Camden Court Hotel.

TYs and 1st Years took part in an AI workshop in which they thought about how to use AI responsibly and developed skills to identify deep fakes. It was an interesting experience.
