Mocks

A big good luck to all our Third and Sixth Year students who are starting their mocks this week.

St. Brigid’s Day

Today is the feast day of St. Brigid. Saint Brigid of Kildare or Brigid of Ireland is the patroness saint of Ireland, and one of its three national saints along with Patrick and Columba. Our Chaplain Leo Devine set up a display in reception highlighting the day. According to Irish history, she was an Abbess who founded the important abbey of Kildare, as well as several other convents of nuns. Brigid then moved to Druin Criag, where under a large oak tree she erected her famous Convent of Cill Dara, translated as, “the church of the oak” where the Kildare Cathedral now stands.

Happy St.Brigid’s Day. Slán go deo.

World Hijab Day

Today is World Hijab Day. Some students set up a display highlighting the hijab in reception. The Hijab is a head covering worn in public by some Muslim women.Additionally, the idea behind modest dress does not only pertain to females, but to males also. Modesty is encouraged for both genders in Islam and is seen as a sign of piety. Indeed, even Mary, the mother of Jesus, wore the hijab. Also, today nuns virtually practice hijab for the same fundamental reason as the devout Muslim woman; to express piety as an individual who chooses to surrender their will to God and God’s Sacred Law.

Have a Happy and Blessed Hijab day.  Ma’a salama.
