We had another successful day in Santry on Day 2 of the West Leinster Schools Track and Field. First up was Alannah Giles who narrowly missed out of qualifying for the Junior 200m final. In the u16 200m Sadhbh Coogan and Caolinn O’Gorman eased through to the final with Sadhbh taking home the gold medal after an impressive victory in the final. Elizabeth Farrelly fought to the finish line to win the Intermediate girls 200m. Meanwhile our field eventers we’re making waves elsewhere with Emily Bradshaw winning the Senior Girls Javelin, Kate Bradshaw took second in the Intermediate Girls Javelin, and 1st year students Alecia Maughan, Róisín Hanley Byrne and Niamh Ryan had brilliant performances in the Minor High Jump and Long Jump. Later we were back on track with Róisín Hanley Byrne taking home the silver medal in the Minor 800m. Bailee Bob Tallon finished a brilliant 10th in the 800m and our Senior Relay team took 5th place.
The afternoon proved to be just as successful for our jumpers with Sarah Kiernan and Maria Reid finishing 3rd and 5th in the Intermediate Long Jump. Alannah Giles had a very impressive performance to take gold in the Junior High Jump. We finished the day on a high with the Intermediate Relay Team storming to victory. The girls added 5 gold, 2 silver and a bronze medal to Tuesday’s total. Our medallists now progress to the Leinster finals in May. Well done to all our athletes this week.
